Horses and ponies

Calling all animal friends! Do you want to give our animals a little bit of extra love? Why not think about sponsoring our ponies!

  • Ponies are small horses.
  • Ponies have thicker manes and tails than horses, as well as shorter legs, thicker necks, and shorter heads.
  • Well-trained ponies are good for children while they’re learning to ride. As well as riding, ponies can be used as draft animals. A draft animal is a strong animal which can be used to pull heavy objects like carts and ploughs.
  • Young ponies are called foals.
  • Shetland ponies are small but very strong.
  • Pound for pound, ponies are stronger than horses.
  • Miniature horses are even smaller than ponies.
  • Hackney ponies were first bred to pull carriages in the old days.
  • Ponies are easy to look after because they need half of the amount of food that a horse would need, if it was the same weight.
