About Newham Grange Farm

We’re an animal petting farm with indoor activities and outdoor play areas, a cafe, a woodland walk, and much more. You can meet many of our furry, feathered, and scaly friends in the petting zoo area of our Discovery Barn.

Where are we?

Come and meet the animals on the farm! We’re in Coulby Newham, south of Middlesbrough near the A19, and just a 20 minute drive from County Durham, North Yorkshire, Hartlepool, and Darlington.

Visitor centre and gift shop

The visitor centre is at the main entrance to the farm and you can find its opening times here.

We’ve got a range of great gifts for kids, including TY toys, puzzles, slime, dinosaur toys, games, soft toys, books, and much more. For a perfect pocket money treat, there are Newham Grange Farm notepads, pens, and pencil cases – perfect for school bags!

For the grown-ups we also stock local honey and preserves, candles, and other household fragrances.

Don’t forget to buy some animal feed too, so you can give our animals a tasty treat!

History of the farm

  • In 1086 the farm was mentioned in the Domesday Book
  • In 1580 the Hopper family become the owners and run the farm for nearly 400 years
  • In 1945 the farm was connected to mains electricity
  • In 1954 the Hopper family buy the farm’s first tractor for £385 (that’s over £22,000 in today’s money!)
  • In 2018 the farm underwent some major construction work to add more playgrounds, sandpits, rebuilt the barn, and much more
  • In 2019 the gift shop and visitor centre was built
  • In 2026 the animal webcams in the Discovery Barn went live
