What animals do we have on the farm?

Chickens and peacocks

The bird enclosure on the woodland walk is home to our chickens and peacocks, surrounded by a tall fence to keep them safe. We’ve got many different breeds of chickens in all sizes, shapes and colours, and they’re very good friends with the peacocks!

Cows

During the summer months our fields are filled with cows, calves and bulls enjoying the sunshine. During the colder months we bring them inside to keep them warm, sometimes you can meet them up close in the discovery barn!

Donkeys

Big, hairy and lovable, you can see why our donkeys are favourites of all ages. They can live over 30 years and have great memories, so give them a big cuddle (and feed them well) and you might have a friend for life!

Ducks, geese, and other water birds

We have plenty of water birds around the farm that are free to come and go as they please. You can find them hanging around near the pond or parading up and down the farm looking for treats. We have different types of geese and duck (including Muscovy ducks) and we often look after their chicks in the discovery barn.

Farm cats

Keep an eye out for our four-legged pest control officers doing the rounds. We have several working cats on site, and while they’re generally friendly they also have a busy schedule to keep, so don’t be offended if they don’t come over to say hello!

Goats

Mischievous and mouthy, you’ll see our goats bouncing around their large pen with plenty of climbing frames and play equipment. You’ll often see the baby goats in a ‘kid pile’ all snuggled up on top of each other. Goats will eat anything and everything, so keep an eye on your hats and gloves!

Guinea pig village

We’ve built a full wild west-style town for our guinea pigs in the discovery barn where we have regular hands-on and animal care sessions throughout the day. They’re everyone’s favourite little furry potatoes, with their distinctive ‘wheep wheep’ noises and little happy jumps called ‘popcorning’.

You can watch the guinea pig village on our live animal webcams.

Horses and ponies

There are lots of horses and ponies cantering about our fields and they love to stop by for a chat (especially if you have feed). If you’re in the discovery barn you might also get to meet some of our smaller horses or ponies as they come in for check-ups.

Llamas

One of our more unusual animals, llamas are related to camels and adapted to the harsh cold weather of South American mountains. They find the weather in England much more pleasant! They’re smart, clean, and social, and although they do have an impressive spit, they only do it when they’re really upset. Llook out!

Pigs and piglets

We have several adult pigs and boars about the farm, and depending on the time of year we can have piglets too! Our pigs are very big and very friendly and you can often find them live streamed on our animal webcams here.

Rabbits

We have all kinds of bunnies living in the Discovery Barn, from lops to lion hairs. They’re well looked after (and a little naughty), and you can meet them and learn about animal care during some of our daily check ups with them. We also live stream the rabbit pens on our animal webcams here.

Sheep and lambs

There are a few flocks of sheep around the farm. They’re always keen to meet new people and inspect their food bags. During the Spring we usually have baby lambs and bottle feeding sessions, so keep an eye on our events page to pre-book!

Small rodents

We have a few different domestic pet rodents that live in the Discovery Barn. Depending on the season, we might have degus, rats, mice, ferrets or gerbils!

Tortoises

Next to the guinea pig village in the Discovery Barn are our tortoises, the longest living land animals in the world. They take a little while to wake up because they need to warm up under a heat lamp. Don’t let their size and sleepiness fool you, they can move surprisingly fast if you’ve got your back turned!

Wallabies

G’day mate! These guests from down under are close relatives of Kangaroos and spend the day grazing the fields and lounging in the shade. Much like our llamas, wallabies are from rocky and mountainous regions, so they’re very comfortable in the English climate.

Meet our animals

All our animals are friendly and open to the public. They’re extra friendly if you pick up some feed from the visitor centre!

We often have seasonal animal events like lamb bottle feeding in Spring. These are always popular, so make sure to pre-book from our events page.

There are regular animal care and handling sessions throughout the day, find times on our Discovery Barn page.
