Accessibility

Newham Grange Farm is a working farm and has made every effort to make the site as accessible as possible – we are still making improvements so please contact a member of staff if you have any questions or need assistance.

This Access Guide has been produced to assist visitors with disabilities to ensure their safety and enjoyment whilst visiting the farm.

There is on site car parking with designated bays for Blue Badge Holders. The accessible parking is located at the main entrance.

The farm is accessible by bus, the number 10 drops you off along Newham Way – the entrance to the farm is approximately a 5-10 minute walk along Wykeham Way.

The surface of the car park is tarmac however the overflow car park is a rolled stone temporary surface and uneven in places.

The main circulation route leading to the Visitors Centre is level but uneven in places.

The site is a working farm and whilst every effort is made to keep the movement of farm machinery to a minimum we ask that visitors are aware of moving vehicles in and around the site.

Admission tickets are available from the Welcome Centre which is signposted from the car park.

People with disabilities and x1 carer are entitled to a concession ticket.

The counter in the shop is accessible for wheelchair users and a portable induction loop is available for people with hearing impairments.

Staff are happy to help if you require assistance in accessing any of the items for sale in the shop.

The majority of the paths around the farm are suitable for wheelchair access, mobility aids and parents with buggies.

The surface and gradients of the paths varies across the site however every effort has been made to make them accessible for all visitors where possible.

Steps and slopes have been kept to a minimum with alternative access routes available.

The routes within the Maze are narrow and some wheelchair users and parents with buggies may struggle to negotiate some of the restricted turns within the Maze.

Every effort has been made to ensure all visitors have clear sightlines and can enjoy the external animal enclosures, Discovery Barn, Woodland Walk etc. – however due to legislation double fencing has been installed which may restrict some views.

If you experience any difficulties please speak to a member of staff.

The café is located behind the Discovery Barn and is clearly signposted throughout the site.

The café has one main entrance – double leaf door with a short external slope leading in to the counter and seating area. There is a secondary door to the cafe which has level access.

The café has flexible furniture, accessible signage and price lists. Staff are happy to help if you require assistance.

Additional seating is available on the first floor this is accessed by a platform lift and stairs.

The café’s outdoor seating area has picnic benches with end spaces which can be accessed by wheelchair users.

There are several play areas for children including natural play, a sand pit, go-karts, soft play, external play equipment – we have tried to provide inclusive play facilities but please speak to a member of staff if you experience any difficulties.

There are three unisex wheelchair accessible toilets – Two in the café building and one in the new toilet block which is located adjacent to the café and indoor soft play area.

Located adjacent to the Activity Room is an additional block of toilets with male and female facilities as well as an ambulant disabled toilet.

Baby change facilities are also available in both locations.

There is also a Changing Places Toilet in the new toilet block which is accessed by a RADAR key (available at the Welcome Centre).
